Gen-Y Conference to Provide Much Needed Solutions for Ottawa Employers

May 27, 2010 - How to Recruit, Motivate, and Retain Generation Y will be held on Wednesday, June 23, at the Hampton Inn & Conference Centre, and it's designed to address one of the biggest issues facing employers today: attracting the best and brightest amidst a dwindling workforce.

Ottawa, along with the rest of Canada, is on the brink of a major talent shortage. With the prediction that hundreds of thousands of jobs will go unfilled in Canada by 2015, it's crucial that managers develop strategies for attracting the best Gen-Y talent immediately. It's predicted that within the next five years, almost half of the Canadian workforce will be between the ages of 45 and 64. The country's largest generation is retiring and doing so at a fast and furious pace. On top of that, Ottawa faces additional challenges, as the workforce is shrinking on account of more than just the baby boomers. Fewer immigrants are moving to Ottawa. The city is simply not attracting its fair share of immigrants when compared to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary. With every business, organization, and government department around the city facing the same problem, the climate for attracting and keeping the best talent is about to get pretty competitive.

How to Recruit, Motivate, and Retain Generation Y will provide Ottawa employers the keys to overcoming this major employment issue. Attendees will learn how to attract the best of Gen-Y. They'll also learn how to take advantage of the skills and mindset of this new breed of tech-savvy, network-oriented, values-first professionals, and how to manage and work with them more effectively to minimize intergenerational issues in the workplace.

A world-class lineup of experts is set to take the stage for this one-day only, all day conference. This who's who of Gen-Y authorities includes: Gen-Y retention expert, internationally published author, and founder of HumanNature@Work, David Lee; Gen-Y consultant to Microsoft, Nike, HP, and McDonald's, and a major player on Canada's 100 Most Influential Women, Jennifer Corriero; founder of Workopolis.com, Kim Peters; and strategic talent management expert to Deloitte, Scotiabank, TD, and more, Edyta Pacuk. They'll be joined by two of Ottawa's best web marketing experts: Marketing Breakthroughs President and Creative Director, Steve Klein, and President of Envision Online Media, Todd Jamieson.

Breakout sessions, discussions, a chance to talk with the experts, and a catered, gourmet breakfast and lunch will also be included. Early bird tickets are available until June 9. Register now or call Jake Naylor or Melinda Hudson for more information at (613) 721-3335.
